Another spotless lamb must die

Year after year, the blood would flow

What an incredible message! Year after year the blood would flow from the spotless lambs that were sacrificed. Year after year the shepherds cried as they gave up their best, their prize possession. But year after year the sins of the world remained. There was no lamb that could wash me white as snow. Then the second verse…

Atonement day, the Father cries

The spotless Son of God must die

One final death for every man

One blood, one life, one Holy Lamb

One Holy Lamb washed my sin away

One sacrifice paid the price I could not pay

Amen! Though the shepherds were heartbroken to give up their best lamb, none could compare to the cries from the Father’s heart as His Only Son, the spotless Son of God died for me. There was only one way…and Jesus is that Way. One Holy Lamb.

“But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people…” (Hebrews 9:26b - 28a).

Hope

A new friend stuck her head in my office this morning and asked if Caleb were graduating this year and my answer was, “No! I’m not falling apart here in my chair, am I?” She laughed and shared some good words of encouragement as a mother whose only child just finished her first year of college. She then shared a quote with me that I also had read in The Shack last week. If you’re focusing on the future, you’re going there without God. Because to focus on the future is to focus on the unknown. Only God knows what the future holds for us. And He hasn’t revealed that to anyone. So for us to spend any time at all worrying about tomorrow, next week, next month or next year is a journey that we’re choosing to take without the Lord. I don’t want to travel there!  The only day we have any control over is this day.

We had our baccalaureate service at church yesterday and it was such a sweet service. I of course cried with the moms. I have had a hard time with the end of school this year just knowing that after Wednesday Caleb will be a senior. But I can’t spend a lot of time worrying about how he’ll “turn out.” We’ve laid the foundation, spent a lot of time training Caleb up in the way he should go. From here all I can do is trust God with Caleb’s future. Otherwise, I’ll be traveling a journey without the Lord and I want no part of that!

It’s okay to look ahead. Just be sure you’re doing so with expectancy, not worry. Expect God to do great things! Expect Him to keep His promises - because He’s going to! And the truth is, today, this day is the only day we are promised. Tomorrow may never get here anyway! Deb says often that she’s praying the Lord will come back today and we’ll all be outta here!

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” (Matthew 6:26 & 27).

“The LORD is faithful to all his promises” (Psalm 145:13).
